How long does it take for babies to get sunburnt outdoors?

Asked 2 years ago

We really try to keep our baby out of direct sunlight. But in the event that we have to go out, I'd like to know how long it typically takes for babies to get sunburnt in both direct sunlight and perhaps strong indirect sunlight as well. Does anyone here know?

When UV levels reach 3 or higher, it is advised that babies under 12 months old be kept out of direct sunlight. Sun protection is typically not necessary when UV levels are below 3, and a few minutes of direct UV exposure is thought to be safe and beneficial for infants.
