Does my child need to wear a helmet when riding a trike?

I know its not compulsory because it isn't a two wheel bike - but is it recommended? Especially considering that I'll assist him in steering.  I just want to keep my child safe from serious injury and anything can happen in public.

While riding a tricycle or any other ride-on toy, youngsters should always wear a helmet. Accidents can happen even at modest speeds, and a helmet can protect your kid from catastrophic head injuries. Every time your child rides the tricycle, make sure the helmet fits properly and is properly worn.
