Can riding a trike teach my toddler build confidence?

I noticed my toddler is very shy. I want him to build some confidence in his abilities as he navigates this world because it can only benefit him. Will a trike assist in this? I want him to trust himself a bit more and be more willing to explore his surroundings without hanging onto me all the time.
