How do stroller trikes compare to traditional strollers in terms of safety?

I see that all the stroller trikes on smarTrike are safety certified but I'd like to know how they compare to traditional strollers in terms of overall safety. With traditional strollers the baby just sits or lies down but stroller trikes offers more child autonomy. What does this mean in terms of safety?
